Rostov is a small countryside town located 200 km from Moscw. It is one of the oldest in the country and a tourist center of the Golden Ring. It was an important Viking trade enclave and fortress guarding the Volga trade route. First mentioned in the year 862 as an already important settlement, by the 10th century Rostov became the capital city of one of the most prominent Russian principalities.

Now Rostov is famous among the tourists by its gorgeous citadel with the cathedral and four tall kremlin churches with their silver "blind" domes. The citadel is located on the shores of Lake Nero. The panoramic view from the Lake Nero to The Citadel is impressive. Amazing place to see the medieval architecture and experience the authentical Russian countryside.

Rostov Velikiy is known as Rostov-Veliky (Rostov the Great) to distinguish it from the larger Rostov-on-Don. It is among the oldest of cities in Russia, having first been mentioned in chronicles in 862. Its most impressive sight is the white-stone kremlin which stands on Lake Nero and is now a museum-reserve. The city also has three monasteries and museums dedicated to the art of painting on enamel for which the city is famed.

We will start at 8.30 a.m. The guide will pick you up from the hotel to accompany you to the railway station by Metro. Then you will take a train (about 9.30 a.m.) that goes straight to Rostov. After 2 hours of riding, you will arrive to Rostov the Great.

In Rostov, you will have a lunch in a local cafe with a very tasty food. During the lunch, the guide will tell you about the Russian cuisine. After, you will have a walk along The Citadel with visiting its cathedrals to observe beautiful interior. The guide will not be telling you millions of facts. Instead, he / she will tell you the main features of Russian history and its impact on the modern Russia. After the long walk, you will have a hour-long boat excursions on the lake Nero to see the impressive panoramic view on the Rostov Citadel.
