Description

Join us on for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of cycling around the green heart of Moscow. See some of the city’s most famous sights but also some of her quirky hidden gems too, such as Museon Park with its many statues of Stalin and former Russian leaders. Your local guide will lead you to some of their favourite places to relax in the city and we’ll hit a local market to try some truly authentic Russian snacks. With picturesque green spaces, pretty panoramas and tasty snacks, we can’t think of a better way to spend 4 hours in the city!

Hop on your bicycles; it’s going to be a smooth ride through the streets and parks of marvellous Moscow! We’ll begin by passing the vibrant Museon Park which bills itself as an ‘open air museum,’ full to the brim with unusual sculptures and relics of Russia’s eclectic past. Many of them date back to Soviet times, when propaganda was a powerful tool and sculpture was an effective weapon.

Next, we’ll glide along the river embankment and across Patriarch Bridge which we think holds the key to the best views in the city. We will linger here to admire and take photos of the panorama of Moscow river, the Kremlin walls/towers, St Basil Cathedral and the statue of Peter the Great.

Balchug Island has a fascinating, if somewhat dark history and that’s where we’re heading to next to check out Red October, a former chocolate factory which has evolved into a trendy district buzzing with hip bars and art galleries.

Cycling by the Cathedral of Christ the Savior we will reach Prechistinka Street where we’ll uncover more Soviet secrets. We will talk about famous Soviet sculptors and architects and see for ourselves some beautiful examples of the art nouveau style.

Next we’ll head to Maiden Field, a residential quarter, where we will learn about everyday life for modern day Muscovites.

If you’re feeling peckish, don’t despair because our next stop will be at a delightful food market called Usachevsky (‘Усачевский’). Here we’ll take a lunch break and try some traditional Russian dishes from porridge to vegetable and meat dishes. We’ll also offer you a tasty and refreshing fruit drink that the locals go crazy for, made with wild red berries.

After lunch, our bikes will take us to the world-famous Gorky Park, a favourite location for leisure and relaxation for generations of Moscow residents. In the park itself we will stop several times to admire your surroundings and to give you an overview of this beautiful place and the many different activities it offers anyone with a bit of free time on their hands.

If you fancy it, a freshly made lemonade awaits you in Gorky Park as our bike adventure comes to an end. Before you go, don’t forget to tap up your local guide for more tips on what else to see, do and eat during your time in Moscow.

Please note: The tour lasts 4 hours and we will mostly be tackling a flat bike road approximately 10km in length. No special physical preparation is required. We suggest putting on some comfy clothes for cycling and comfy shoes. A bottle of water is a very good idea as well!
